The Panhellenic Games were actually four separate events that were spread out all over a four year m period, so athletes could compete constantly. There were the Pythian, isthmian, Nemean, and Olympic games within this four year time frame. This time frame was accreditn as the Olympiad. (Wikipedia, 2008) The Pythian Games were held every tertiary year of the Olympiad at Delphi and included not only athletic competition but also musical and literary contests. The Isthmian Games were during the Spring in basic and the third year of the Olympiad. These games were held to keep Palaemon and Poseidon and the contests were typically what they would play during the Olympic games only on a lower scale.
Also played in the first and third years of the Olympiad were the Nemean games. The Nemean games were held in Nemea and winners received monetary awards for lovely their events. Finally, the Olympic Games of that time was the premier athletic meeting of old-fashioned Greece and were held every fourth year of the Olympiad. (Columbia University, 2007).
Very much the likes of today, people of Ancient Greece would travel many miles to watch and play in the Panhellenic Games.
