Scott Fitzgeralds novel, The Great Gatsby, took place during the hit the sack age, which was a time where bills and societal manakin were extremely great to a person. Fitzgerald was actually known as the literary spokesman of the jazz age because most of his works took place during this time (Columbia 1). The boloney takes place in the wealthy New York area. The wealthy spate here are split up into two groups, the air jacket eggers and the east eggers. The east eggers were known as old notes because they have always been rich and never really did anything to obtain it. The west eggers were known as new silver because they bring in their money, not their parents. The underprivileged in this society were viewed as undistinguished and useless. This showed how the American pipe dream was corrupt at this time because it was the paper that anybody could catch successful no matter his or her social class. Money is everything to the main characters in this book. Jay Gatsby, the main character, used his money to try to lure his former lover back to him and he would throw wild parties in hope that Daisy would make an port at one of them (Telgen 69). Gatsbys obsession for Daisy was very rugged as he built his entire fortune by doing illegal activities all in an effort to impress Daisy.

The characters in this novel lived in a society that had the mindset that money was the only thing that mattered and they would do anything to have money regular if that meant they would do immoral and corrupt activities. In this novel, Jay Gatsby and the community he lived in was sort of an example of what happened to the idea of the American dream during the 1920s. The American dream was the idea that anybody could come to America and become successful if they worked hard no matter their social class or race (Noonan 1)....
