The first main similarity between the deuce stories is the problem the protagonist must overcome. Edgar Allen Poes The Cask of Amontillado takes note in the 1800s and is about a man named Montresor victorious penalize on a fellow nobleman named Fortunato. Montresor is angry at Fortunato for an insult and he plots to murder his friend during a funfair while Fortunato is drunk. Stephen Kings Dolans Cadillac takes place in modern time and is about a man named Robinson taking revenge on Dolan for murdering his wife. Both main characters are preparation on flummoxting revenge on another man by the means of murder. However, the reason for revenge is slightly incompatible in each situation.
In The Cask of Amontillado, Montresors enkindle is triggered by an insult from Fortunato. Robinsons reason for revenge seems more more justified. Dolan murdered Elizabeth Robinson because she was going to testify against him. Basically she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and it resulted in her death. Ever since, Robinson has been carefully planning Dolans downfall, or as it is referred to in the story, his arc of decent (King).
