Cambodia, a Southeast Asian hoidenish that shares borders with Thailand, Vietnam and Laos, was under the French rule from 1863 until 1953. This long period of time affected commonwealth who fell into apathy demonstrated through their lack of political interest and desire for change. However, during this period of time, a small communistic group started to emerge. They saw the future Cambodia as an independent and collective country with satisfied citizens. Their main inspiration came from Pol corporation, a Cambodian revolutionary first introduced to communism during his studies in France. The Cambodian Communist Party grew mainly under Pol Pots charisma and eventually did come to power. He created a genocide that killed millions of people in labor camps, which still affects the country of Cambodia today.
Pol Pot, a Cambodian well educated in France, admired the Chinese Mao Communism. In the jungles of Cambodia before the genocide, he was able to form a resistance against Prince Norodom Sihanouk, Leader of Cambodia.
