Connecting Fear to An Epic
One of the strongest emotions indoors the epos Beowulf is that of fear, signifying that even the most unlikely of characters, from heroes to villains, still infrequently know dread and terror.
In Part One of Beowulf, the hoi polloi of Herot are being savagely attacked by the voracious fiend, Grendel. On the contrary, the Lord will not be the only one that the creature is afraid of. In the coming of Beowulf, the boastful son of Edgetho proves to be victorious in the gruesome brawl that occurs amongst him and Grendel.
As Beowulf lodges out in the palace of Herot in the all of a sudden of night with his men waiting for the killer to arrive, keeping his eyeball out vigilantly for Grendel, he fabricates the plan to overcome him. This, is what leads to the immense battle of good and evil. Yet, all Grendel wanted to do was associate back to his cave and hide from Beowulf (Raffel 48). The victorious hero of this epic slays the terrible fiend by cutting off his shoulder, gird and claw (Raffel 49) and showing it off as a trophy.
As Part Two of Beowulf begins, the people of Herot are in a frenzy because of the defeat of Grendel. However, Beowulf must now take on the mundane task of slaughtering the monsters mother as well.
